Intermittent Site Disruption (but don't worry about it)

Hi Guys,

I'm working on improving site performance through various caching methods. It is necessary for me to change setting, restart the site and then re-test.

Some permutations work better than others and some just don't work at all !

It is necessary for me to do this on the LIVE site rather than my development site. The consequence is that, at times, the site may report a 500 Page Not Found or behave erratically.

I want to reassure all member that, if a download was in progress and is prematurely terminated, you can restart the download without any further points being required/deducted.

For those writing Forum Posts, may I suggest that you 'Preview' the post from time to time as this should cause your browser to store the message and the site will offer to refill the form when you refresh the page (only try this if the page suddenly blanks itself). As this is as much a browser feature (out of my control) as it is a site feature it may not always work.

Sorry for any disruption but the intended result to to improve your site experience.

Apologies, it's been a day of experimentation and I've caused a few problems.

Things should now be stable and I promise not to do anything else stupid (at least for the rest of the day)

Update: Sunday Morning 5th February (GMT)

Again with the disruptions!

The performance improvements I gained over the past week look to have caused some instability on the site itself so I have rolled back the clock and removed most of them. This is the problem with having multiple levels of caching.

Unfortunately, there is no good time to close the site as it is always busy so I do what I can. Sunday morning is the best time for me to do so as it is least busy but again, I had to kick-off a few members so I apologise to them for that.

The actual problem was that on rare occasions a page wouldn't render and an error message was displayed, I am monitoring the site constantly but would appreciate a heads-up if you are noticing any further problems.

As of the time of this post I have restarted one of the most important caches.

This should provide a reasonable performance increase.

If you experience ANY page/web server errors please report them straight away.

Thanks
