No answer from transceiver when trying to clone

I have a Icom M71 which I would like to add some extra channels to. I have downloaded the M71/M72 software and bought a usb lead which is supposed to be for the M71. When opening the program and connecting the radio up through the mic 3.5 port with the radio turned on, when I select the designated com port and go to 'read' I keep getting a warning message that there is no answer from the transceiver. Has anyone got any idea where i'm going wrong?

You need an Icom OPC-922 adaptor lead.

Ahh, I didn’t realise there was another lead for programming. I was under the the impression that the mic was used. Thanks for your reply, I’ll get a lead ordered

Hi, I have an Icom M71 but it does not have a 3.5 mic port, just a 4-pin mic port. Anyway, I am trying to programme an M73, which has the same 4-pin port, and even with the OPC-922 adaptor to connect the 3.5 mic plug to the 4-pin port I too am getting an error so would be interested in your experience when you get the correct adaptor cable. Thanks.
