Issue faced for my GP328 Programming Software

Post

I had downloaded the programming software from here (Hamfiles.co.uk), thanks to the person. But I cannot read my walkie talkies via my laptop. Does my walkie talkie version on the sticker need to match with my programming software to read it?

Can you tell us what's happening during the reading of your radio? Doe's it have an error? of communication com port issues? If you can tell us what exactly is happening maybe I can help you to Identify the problem. Numbers :)

My error message was, "Couldn't open port. Check whether Device/RIB are powered on or not, and the Device to RIB, and the RIB to PC connection is OK."

You need to make sure you select the right com-port… Then make sure you have a 70% battery for your radio…

I know the exact problem… handshake issue between the radio rib and com port …
1. Check make sure com ports are matching com 1 of computer com 1 of software .. if your using a 9pin to 25 pin null cable to Rib … make sure rib is on and programming cable snug, lastly radio on.  Shouldn't have a problem unless there's a bent Pin on the Null Cable. Cheers 73's

was this solved ?

Nope. not solved, I had sent them for maintenance at Motorola. I also had handed over the case to the new staff who took over my appointment, and I have not heard any news since.

Thanks all for your replies.

Appreciated!

sounds great … hopefully it will get resolved. Couldn't Open Port interesting that's a first for me in years of programming Motorola's and other radio's. Kinda dawned my mind why would that happen, unless a driver issue, or a radio issue regarding pin configuration or just the radio programming cable to Radio isn't handshaking. Non the less, shop should be able to take care of it. Please let us know what was the solution in getting it fixed. Good for Knowledge Bases for others that come accross this problem as well. 73's and God Day

Hi all. I know this is an old post but Im experiencing the same error on my Motorola GP380 UHF. Im not using a RIB but a usb instead. The ComTool that came with the setup is able to read from the radio (which tells me that it can communicate) but when trying to read via the software (R03.10.03) it switches off the radio and gives the above mentioned RIB error (attached). The COM port on the PC and software is the same. Tried Win 10 and 7 and XP.

Ive tried different USB drivers and numerous versions of the software. The R03.10.03 matched the exact software on the radio.

Ive even tries programming the radio while on charge, to avoid power problems, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if this has been corrected but I just got an email on it :)  Sounds like a Software compatibility, yes I read you issue and we all know how to program Motorola's using the correct equipment and the CPS that was used over and over however, now we have a tendency to get errors occasionally, now what I'm seeing is a issue with the Radio itself. I'm not sure of the History of the radio, how many times it's been flashed or if it has been flashed. Also stock radio GP380 with original flash no modification flash updated to the radio. Most guys try that to get the MDC1200 Squak for signaling, though yes it's worked hehehe. Anyways, My thoughts to isolate the issue is use a newer CPS for the sake of just trying. If you used that same CPS Version, I believe it's the radio. Usually when there's an error like that. It's on the dot a communication but I remember back in the 90's where we read and write thousands of radio's and we get this error generally it's because of a faulty radio like at the Manufacturer the flash wasn't completed. But in this case, you've used the radio day after day, and now you decided to program it and now you're getting this error ? Correct ?

Hey guys having the same issue. i have gp339 Using the gp300/gm300 series CPS R03.11.16. I have a USB to Motorola cable. I ran comport checker and its reading fine. But i still get this message - Couldn't open port. Check whether Device/RIB are powered on or not, and the Device to RIB, and the RIB to PC connection is OK.

I have 4 of the radios and i have tried all of them and get the same message.

I see this issue very often but i am sure is driver .try rolling back the driver.i program 8 of the radio late last year.the only difference is i use serial.which easier plug and play. ,for me i hardly used usb .and my os is as follow.windows (vista ,2000.98se .7and 10.)maker sure you select a lower port if possible.contact on radio clean.it is very much frustrating when you have problem like this.also try it on different computer if you have one .keep me posted

I've made sure the 2ways are clean. I have tried on windows 7 windows 10 windows and get this message.

When i use a VM for windows XP 32 bit it just gets stuck and the program shuts down.

When using windows 7 i use com port 1, the radio is on the charger and turned on so that puts power issues away.

I'm starting to wonder what else i can do, If anyone knows any ways around this issue it would be great!!!
