Greetings,

I got Kenwood NX-700HK for free. This is my first mobile station, I have used HT before. I have some questions and would appreciate any help.

1. Will cheap programming cable off of ebay work? This is the one I am thinking to get Program Software CD USB Programming Cable for Kenwood Radio NX-700HK | eBay.
2. Which programming software should I use?
3. What kind of antenna I can start with? Something relatively inexpensive around $50.
4. I purchased TekPower TP30SWV power supply. Will this work with the station?

Thank you for help

Usually they (the cheap cables) usually work fine.
As far as the software,  I use the KPG-111D. Its and older version but still works well for what im using it for.
As far as antennas go it really just depends on what all you'll be using the base station for. Some use a magnetic mount sponge actually have towers. It really just depends.
The power supply should work fine for that radio.

In case someone will be reading this. Here is what I figured out:

1. Will cheap programming cable off of ebay work? Answer: Yes. It worked fine.
2. Which programming software should I use? Answer: I used MCS2000 CPS R02.02.00 RVN4175V. I got the software from here.
3. What kind of antenna I can start with? Something relatively inexpensive around $50. Answer: I got myself Tram 1480. This is a cheap Chinese replica of more expensive vertical antennas. Works fine.
4. I purchased TekPower TP30SWV power supply. Will this work with the station? Answer: It works perfectly.

congrats on your radio it sounds like a screaming deal for a radio. is that a standerd 25W nx-700 or a 50w high powerd nx-700h?
also i dont know how you got that software to work when the radio is a kenwood and the software is Moto. there not even the same brand or genaration of radio but the kenwood software is kpg-111d and is found on this site (link below)

Hey.

I got nx-700hk, the 50-watt version.
I am sorry, I mistakenly put the MCS2000 software link there. It is because I also got MCS2000 for free and I think I just confused myself when was replying in the thread. You are correct, I used KPG software to program the kenwood.

I just picked one of these up and the radio is password locked, I've tried 4.7 and 5.0 versions of the software and neither will let me reset the password.
The engineers serial with 45 in the serial number does not work on the 4.7 version and I cannot find a version older than 4.7 available for download anywhere.
Apparently that engineers serial only works on v4.4 and older.
Any help would be appreciated in trying to find an older version of KPG-111D to get this radio unlocked.

Try 111K5454Z001AWJE
that is an advanced key and should still do what you want. is that an old bnsf radio by any chance?
