the posted UV-9D software doesn't work for me

Has anyone successfully unlocked a UV-9P with the posted software and RT systems USB cable?   I can't get it to communicate…

TIA!

Seems I solved my problem, the Unlock program didn't work with WIN8.1 however it did work on an older machine with WIN7.

Hay. I have in mind to try and do the samething with my KG-UV9P using a old laptop with Win7 Ultimate. I have busy so I have not done it yet. Prob. this week or next week. The individual who already posed their issue used a RT cable and just because their's worked does not mean yours will. I would suggest using a Wouxun Programming cable. Also do not confuse a Baofeng UV-9P with a Wouxun KG-UV9P. They are very different radio's. I would also suggest only expanding the Rx range. And do so only in small step(s). What I have learned is that it does no good to try and talk to someone if you can not hear them. My point being that it is better to listen and than to talk. Also by changing the Tx range you could really end up interfering with equipment and individual(s) in way(s) that you may not realize and understand. So, work on expanding the Rx range first in small step(s) and as I said try using a official Wouxun cable. It is sometimes referred to as a "Red" Wouxun programming cable. I have noticed that the radio picks up more static when I hold it. That means several different thing(s). But consider that when using it. Also the "A" radio Rx just a little bit better than the "B" radio. When you charge it up make sire you put it in the cradle correctly. Be careful of resenting. It is a bobbly trap if you ask me. Do not reset to factory setting(s) only to VFO. I would also suggest that you get a RT programming kit anyway. Save any setting(s) and programming first before going to far with expanding the RX (or even the Tx). If you look on your box notice on the UPC/ID tracking sticker on the original box and it states a different frequency range than what and how your radio came. And you may loose some of the functionality of the radio if you reset to factory setting(s). Factory setting(s) are the ALL selection of the reset. There should have been a warning about all of this in the manual and/or insert but I am willing to bet there is/was none sent out in any of them. Meaning that the radio has been bobby trapped intwo way(s). One in aspects to the program. The other in aspects to the battery. The programming issue is/was to generate more money for the retailer (to reprogram) and the battery is/was to generate more money for the actual Wouxun company. it self by causing the battery to go bad right after the warranty and then causing you to need to buy another battery. If you or the other(s) KG-UV9P user(s) (BoostMasterK) need some help let me know.

The programming software here allowed me to do everything EXCEPT unlock the TX, unless I'm overlooking something obvious.

Can you please share more about this, is your radio the 9P or 9D? Were you able to unlocked it? I'm using a Dell, win 10, the limit software downloaded from here, and the red cable. When I open up the app, it won't read from or write to the radio (KG-UV9P).

My model is KG-UV9P. It was bought from BSR. I was able to use the software from here and it's pretty self explanatory when you get it to work. I would test your cable with the regular wouxun software to be sure you have your port for the cable right and your cable works.

There was another uv9 software I downloaded from here that didn't work that messed me up for a while until I realized I was using the wrong software for my model.

Can anyone elaborate on exactly how to change the frequency restrictions on the KG-UV9D Mate?
I'm using the Wouxon red cable which I've used before to program.
The software looks identical to what Wouxon has on their webpage.
I feel like I am missing something here.

Thanks

I'm having this exact same experience. The software reads the radio fine, says "WriteOK!" when I write to it. The radio still will not transmit outside the HAM frequencies.. Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hey now,
I used it on my UV9P and it's good to go…that said, have you moved/dropped the frequency limitation file into the programming software first? Remember that  afterwards you may have to manual enter the frequencies you want to tx/rx on.

The download contains two programs. The one you'll find in the main directory is the programming software. There is a sub directory which contains a separate, smaller program. This is what's used to set the frequency limits of the radio. It's pretty self-explanatory once you open it.

As stated above, you need to locate the SECOND file after un-archiving, that is the one that allows you to modify the frequency range.  Worked for me.

Thanks for the replies! You guys are awesome!  It turns out, I was using the correct software, and had gotten the radio reprogrammed. The radio came pre-programmed from BSR and wasn't set to TX on GMRS on the pre-programmed channels. I set the TX frequency, and everything is golden! Thanks for all the help!

Thank you all for the info in this thread. I ran the freq limit changer on a Windows 10 machine that was running in VirtualBox for Mac. I had low expectations, but it worked like a charm. I'm a happy man. Thank you again.

Thanks to everyone on this thread - especially EricAtTheW. I used the KG-UV9D Plus software to unlock the frequency on a KG-UV9D Mate. I utilized a Laptop running Windows 10 and a Btech programming cable (PC03).  The programs worked flawlessly!
