Can I upload large collections?

Question Can I upload large collections?
Answer From time-to-time I am fortunate enough to receive an offer of a large collection of RSS/CPS's. These are often preceded with a PM asking what I need and how to go about uploading these items, this FAQ is intended to address these questions.

Firstly, let me be clear, I am grateful for any and every offer of software, firmware or manuals, this is the lifeblood of Hamfiles.

That said, Hamfiles has become so active that I have very little time available after doing daily maintenance, back-end & front-end coding and replying to PM's that I am not able to spend as much time as I'd like actually validating new uploads.

For the reasons given above, I am no longer accepting bulk uploads (large compressed packages containing multiple CPSs).

The validation process is not just ticking a box but a long list of tests, often a considerable amount of research & editing, the creation of image/s and of course, cross-checking to be sure we don't already have the given version available for download or in the back-catalogue awaiting validation.

If I were to add your packages for you, I would also have to manually edit the database in a number of tables to ensure you get the points when another member downloads it.

You may just be reading this out of curiosity but more likely I've directed you to the FAQ as a result of an offer, the next section is mainly for you.

I have already written some basic FAQ that should be your starting point: The next section will answer 'I have lots of programs/manuals, what should I upload?'

As I've stated elsewhere, uploading does not trigger automatic validation. What I mean by that is that I do not validate everything that is uploaded, only those items that are specificity requested in the 'Wanted' section of the Forum and then, only if a ticket is created (Type: Request for Validation) for each individual item.

I am also happy to validate one-or-two items if a member is desperate for DL points. In this case, any upload that is devoid of accompanying information is ignored (if you can't be bothered, why should I?).

Upload points (5-50 per upload) are directly proportional to the completeness of the information you provide on the upload form, please be diligent in this respect as you will not be able to edit your upload once you click the SAVE button (this will be addressed in the new version of the site).

Post validation, you will receive 1 point for every megabyte your upload contains each time a member downloads your item. Do Not inflate the upload package with unnecessary files, If you do I will only strip them out again and this will reduce you initial upload points.

To summarise:
  1. Upload in response to members requests in the Wanted Section of the Forum.
  2. Check both the 'All Downloads List' and 'Back-Catalogue' to avoid duplicates.
  3. Complete the upload form with as much RELEVANT information as possible to maximise initial points.
  4. Create an individual ticket for each upload.
I hope that answers your questions but if you need more info, please don't hesitate to ask.
